Congratulations to the Brackman Memorial Invitational Tournament 2023 winning team of Ed Monahan and Doug Meece.
Now it is on to the 2024 tournament. As always, we make changes and improvements to keep the BMI as the top of the line INVITATIONAL tournament of the year. It means something to be invited to the BMI!
The winners this year will have a far more signficant donation made in their name to the
Kevin W Donovan Foundation. Click on icon below for more information. (use back arrow to return)
The Foundation is dedicated to providing "Make a Wish" type trips to families who have a member suffering from dreaded ALS disease. In 2023 they provided a trip to Ed and Shelly Monahan's daughter, Melanie, and her husband Tyler, who is afflicted with ALS. The foundation is run by Shelly Donovan and her sons as a lasting dedication to her husband/their father, Kevin who died from ALS complications in 2022. When Kevin was diagnosed with ALS, they decided they would make the most of the time he had left by living life to the fullest, traveling abundantly. It was in those travels that the idea of creating a foundation to do the same for others was formed.
Today the foundation aims to provide 4-6 trips per year usually costing between $7,500 and $10,000, so the need is great; but the return is greater.
There will be TWO major enhancements this year.
The first is that in addition to a much upgraded charitable donation package as described above, there will be other enhancements to the ceremony, including but not limited to, the winner's wear, which will be tailored and be the permanent possession of the winners. The rest is a surprise, but players, patrons, staff and mascot will be suitably impressed.
The second is the creation of additional moving scoreboards so players can see their competitive position as they move through the round. With all team's handicaps being so closely bunched this year, every stroke will count and knowing where you stand at any given point in time might be crucial information to a team's strategic approach on each hole as competitors approach the end of their rounds. This will include unbiased, highly qualified scorers. (well OK, we will cover the basics with them and hope they don't fudge toward family members, proof of which would be grounds for severe punishment up to a possible suspension) The scorers will remove the burden of a member each group having to manage it's scorecard, plus be the official conduit to the rules officials should a ruling need to be made. The scorers will NOT serve as rules officials.
